This app has made my life so much easier. I don’t like sending or receiving voice messages: listening takes time and attention, and I find it easier to focus on text and come back to the information I need.
But I don’t always have the energy to type everything out, either. Upsurge has been brilliant for that. It’s even improved my relationships with my family — I now dictate long stories to my family that I never used to get around to writing. 😂

This is the app I’d been looking for! Voice messages aren’t always appropriate, and sometimes typing just isn’t an option. With my phone’s built-in dictation, cleaning up the text could take even longer than typing it.
With Upsurge, it figures out where sentences end, adds punctuation, and puts the text where I need it — in a messaging app, ChatGPT, or my notes.
At first I was amazed. Then, of course, I got used to the magic and started taking it for granted. 😁 But I still absolutely love it!

How is this different from basic dictation?
Upsurge combines speech recognition with AI cleanup to produce readable text with punctuation and fewer fillers. You can also translate the result and add more by voice. Check the text before using it, especially names and numbers.
Is it a keyboard or a separate app?
Both are ways to use it. On iPhone, dictate through the Upsurge keyboard or capture and edit text in the app. Quick Record opens the app. On Mac, use a shortcut or floating microphone for supported text fields, or record in the Upsurge workspace.
Does translation happen live?
Upsurge translates your text after you finish speaking. Choose an output language before dictating, or translate a saved text afterward.
What do I need to set up?
Allow microphone access. The iPhone keyboard needs Full Access for voice input; a new session may open Upsurge and require you to return to your message. Mac automatic insertion requires Accessibility permission. Secure fields are excluded.
Where can I get it, and what does it cost?
Upsurge is available for iPhone on the App Store and as a free Mac download. On iPhone, free dictation includes a weekly word allowance. Pro adds unlimited dictation, translation and full statistics. Check the app for your local price and trial eligibility.
How is my data handled?
Dictation and translation use cloud processing. Read the current Privacy Policy for what is processed, service providers, and storage details. You choose when to start recording and when to send your text.
